The Karambit price floor
Unlike rifles or pistols, knives don't have a "cheap" tier. Every Karambit drops from a knife slot at 0.26% per case opening, which sets a hard floor: $190-280 for the cheapest finishes. Below that price you're either looking at a fake, a scammed listing, or a bot-trade with hidden fees.
$200–500 — entry knives
Default pick: Karambit | Safari Mesh in Field-Tested or Battle-Scarred ($200-280). Tactical-camo finish, reads as a working knife rather than a flashy showpiece.
Alternatives: Boreal Forest for cooler green camo ($210-300); Rust Coat in BS (~$250) for an intentional aged-iron aesthetic.
$500–2,000 — mid-tier patterns
This is where pattern-graded finishes start. The blade quality steps up significantly.
Default pick: Karambit | Slaughter in Minimal Wear ($600-900). Bold red-and-pink pattern with peak visual impact in the inspect animation.
Alternatives: Tiger Tooth in FN ($1,000-1,400) for the iconic black-and-gold; Doppler Phase 1 ($800-1,200) for the pink-and-black low-floor Doppler entry; Crimson Web MW ($1,200-1,800) for the deep-red gothic look.
$2,000–5,000 — collector tier
Higher-grade Dopplers, Marble Fade and Fade enter at this tier.
Default pick: Karambit | Marble Fade in Factory New ($1,100-1,500 for basic patterns; $2,500+ for Fire & Ice). Swirled red/blue/yellow finish — Fire & Ice patterns are the top tier. Always FN/MW only.
Alternatives: Fade 90% in FN ($3,500-4,500); Gamma Doppler Phase 2 FN ($2,500-3,500); Doppler Sapphire or Black Pearl ($4,000-6,000 depending on float).
$5,000+ — flagship tier
The flagships: Karambit | Doppler Ruby ($6,000-9,000), Karambit | Gamma Doppler Emerald ($15-30K), Karambit | Lore FN ($18-25K). The Lore is the rarest non-Doppler Karambit finish — the original Chroma 3 case Covert with a 1.95% pattern variance.
Beyond: Karambit | Case Hardened Blue Gems — Tier 1 patterns (387, 661, 670) trade for $200K+ for verified high-coverage copies. These are six-figure private trades; not Steam Market listings. See our Blue Gem guide for the pattern-index breakdown.
Verdict
Safari Mesh BS for the cheapest entry; Slaughter MW or Tiger Tooth FN for the mid-tier statement; Marble Fade FN or Doppler Ruby for the collector tier. Blue Gem patterns exist as their own market — they cost more than most cars and trade off-Steam in private deals.
