How AWP pricing tiers work
AWP skins are split across all six rarities (Consumer through Covert) but pricing skews dramatically higher than other weapon classes because the AWP is a fan-favourite. Even Mil-Spec AWPs trade at 2-3× the equivalent rifle Mil-Spec, and Covert AWPs can reach knife prices. We've grouped picks into five price tiers below.
Under $20 — entry tier
Default pick: AWP | Worm God in Field-Tested ($4-7). The lime-green tactical palette is unmistakable in-game and the wear blends well. Worm God was the first AWP many players bought and remains one of the most popular sub-$10 finishes.
Alternatives: AWP | Atheris ($5-9) for the snake-coil pattern; AWP | Pink DDPAT at $1-3 for an off-meta pink digital camo.
$20–100 — mid tier
This range buys you genuinely premium AWP looks without committing to triple digits. Most players never need to spend more than this.
Default pick: AWP | Asiimov in Field-Tested ($80-110). The white-and-orange Asiimov is the most recognised sniper skin in CS history. Field-Tested wears in by design — pay close attention to float (~0.20-0.25 is the sweet spot) rather than chasing the wear category.
Alternatives: AWP | Fever Dream in MW (~$40) for a hand-drawn psychedelic palette; AWP | Redline for the iconic red-and-black matching your AK-47 Redline if you run both.
$100–500 — premium tier
Now you're in Covert territory. These are sub-rare snipers with strong art direction and proven hold on price.
Default pick: AWP | Hyper Beast in Minimal Wear ($150-220). Bright comic-style monster art, instantly readable in-game. The Battle-Scarred at $40-60 is the cheapest Covert AWP still actively traded, but MW preserves the artwork cleanly without paying FN premium for a stylised design.
Alternatives: AWP | Neo-Noir in FT ($200-280) — anime noir aesthetic that's aged extremely well; AWP | Wildfire in BS ($150-250) for fire-and-skull energy.
$500–5,000 — collector tier
At this level you're either buying lower-wear flagship Coverts or StatTrak versions of classics. Pattern grading starts to matter.
Default pick: AWP | Medusa in Field-Tested ($600-1,200). The hand-painted Medusa art is one of Valve's best collaborations. Operation Phoenix Collection drop — retired, supply fixed.
Alternatives: AWP | Containment Breach StatTrak in MW (~$700); AWP | Oni Taiji in FT ($800-1,500) for the demonic samurai art on the Operation Riptide flagship.
$5,000+ — flagship tier
Only buy at this level for collection or speculation. Common targets:
- AWP | Dragon Lore — the king. Non-Souvenir Field-Tested clears $8,000-15,000; Souvenir FN with a tournament sticker can hit $200,000+. Cobblestone Collection (retired).
- AWP | Gungnir — Norse Collection Covert at $20,000-50,000 depending on wear and StatTrak status. Lower supply than Dragon Lore but lower brand recognition.
- AWP | The Prince — St. Marc Collection. $3,000-8,000 range. Underrated relative to Dragon Lore.
- AWP | Desert Hydra — Operation Hydra exclusive, retired. $25,000+ in FT.
What to check before paying
- Float. AWPs render the wear on the entire stock — a high-float Asiimov shows worn-out edges that fit the design, but a high-float Dragon Lore looks legitimately tired. Always verify the actual float number on the listing.
- StatTrak. AWPs are clutch weapons — StatTrak kill counters matter visually. Worth the 30-80% premium for skins you'll play with long-term.
- Stickers. Souvenir Dragon Lores with a tournament MVP sticker can be 10-50× the non-Souvenir version. Craft stickers (4-sticker setups) add 20-200% depending on the stickers used.
- Marketplace pricing. Compare across our live "Wear & prices" grid before paying. Steam usually overprices AWPs by 15-25% vs the major third-party marketplaces.
